Manager Communications & Public Affairs

The Manager Communications & Public Affairs will be responsible for developing; managing and directing communications initiatives within the Ministry and to assist departments/authorities implement plans through broadcast, print material, graphic design and web services

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

The post-holder should possess: a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications or a related area of media relations, and at least five years communications/media experience, preferably in print journalism. The following skills and abilities are also essential:

  • A high level of interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with government personnel and to put them at ease when gathering information or communicating ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with the media.
  • Ability to concisely and clearly present complex information to the media and the public.
  • Ability to interact at a senior level with business leaders, politicians and members of the public.
  • Ability to communicate with and build trust with journalists, editors, producers and other authorities whose decisions impact the media.
  • Knowledge of media production, including graphic design/print/website production, television and radio production in order to liaise effectively with designers, editors, producers and journalists.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • A record of achievement in developing and implementing communication strategies.
  • Ability to develop proposals, budgets and schedules.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the strategic communication programmes and public relations plans through consultation with department heads and senior staff to ensure that short and long term needs of the Ministry and departments are met.
  • Assist in the development, monitoring and control of publications within the Ministry and ensure adherence to government standards.
  • Provide assistance and advice to the Minister, Chief Officer and senior staff to effectively manage relevant issues and coordinate public appearance schedules.
