The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism

invites applications for the following post:

Public Relations Officer

This post will facilitate and take the lead with public relations activities as delegated and directed by the Manager, Public Relations Unit. Perform the technical work of the Unit and recognize the importance of keeping all audiences informed.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Generate PR Communication tools to support departmental goals and objectives
  • Assist in budget oversight for PR unit projects, including completion of required monthly reports, output reporting and TRS management for reporting staff
  • Manage the Visiting Journalist Programme
  • Supervise and mentor Public Relations Assistant
  • Developing relationships with industry leaders and trendsetters through social media
  • Keep overseas PR Agencies updated on all tourism developments and attractions and relevant local news stories affecting tourism in the Cayman Islands
  • Maintain the Unitís collateral materials and inventory stock in consultation with the Marketing Team. Organize and update media and content library
  • Collect and research information for Public Relations purposes

Applicants should possess but not limited to the following:

  • Bachelorís Degree in Journalism/ Communications, with a minimum of 3 yearsí experience in the absence of a degree 5- 7 years within the area of public relations/interactive media journalism with exposure to the tourism sector
  • Journalism, PR and photography skills
  • Experience in developing multi-faceted communication programmes
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, strong copywriting and content creation skills
  • Supervisor experience
  • Good computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good working knowledge of the internet, online tools and technology applications
  • An ability to develop a good rapport with media personnel
  • Strong project management skills and multi-tasking abilities
