Import & Export Officer (Veterinary Services)

We seek an experienced individual to review and process import and/or export of all animal and animal products, while communicating constantly with clients regarding the status of their applications and act as primary point of contact for all animal and animal product import/export matters of the Cayman Islands.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • The post holder should have either an Associate’s Degree in any of the following: Animal Science, Natural Science, Biology, Veterinary Technology or other related scientific field with at least 2 years’ experience working with animals.


  • Good working knowledge, must be comfortable with care and handling of a diverse array of large and small animals
  • Must be familiar with the Animal’s Law, Regulations, and conditions regarding the importation & exportation of animals into/out of the Cayman Islands.
  • Must be cognizant of the National Conservation Law as it relates to the importation and exportation of exotic species.
  • Must be aware of CITES-related laws for the trade of listed species and articles. Knowledge of other countries’ animals and animal products import and export laws, regulations, and conditions is a plus.
  • Must have a meticulous and keen eye for detail
  • Ability to perform duties with large degree of independence and minimal supervision
  • Must be a quick learner, flexible and adaptable to new, fast-paced environments and procedures.
  • Good written, oral communication and time management skills are essential
  • High degree of Computer literacy skills is required

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Communication with clients, respond to telephone calls and emails related to animal travel.
  • - Assist with queries related to animal travel procedures and requirements

    - Update clients on a regular basis regarding the status of animal import/export permits

  • Receive and review documentation related to the import and export of animals
  • Process and prepare permits to clients once applications are approved for import or export.
  • Provide technical support to Veterinarian while conducting weekly rabies vaccination and microchip implantations clinics
  • Conduct regular public relations and training interventions with clients as it relates to animal and animal products import and exports.
  • Assist with reports and statistical data or any other information required for sector planning
