The Ministry is seeking to fill the following vacancy:

Needs Assessment Officer

Department of Children & Family Services

The primary responsibility of the Needs Assessment Officer is to carry out the daily administration of financial assistance services through conducting means tests and arranging payments.

Principal Accountabilities

Principal accountabilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Managing an assigned case load and meeting with clients on an appointment or walk-in basis to conduct social assessments;
  • Inputting client details and updating information in the Financial Assessment Services database;
  • Preparing reports on financial assessments to assist the decision-making process;
  • Giving advice to customers on the Law and Regulations governing the disbursement of financial assistance as well as providing financial counselling; and
  • Contacting clients and third parties to obtain and verify information received.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

The successful applicant is required to possess a minimum of the following:

  • Associates degree in Human Services or Business with 3-5 years’ work experience in a Human Service or Business setting or a High School Diploma with a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a Human Service or Business setting;
  • Ability to work with various groups of people and have excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and be sensitive to the varied cultures of the community;
  • Work co-operatively with others and gain their confidence and respect; and
  • Identify and respond appropriately to emotionally charged situations.
